Virginia Dare on Mars
Description: Virginia Dare is a thing of myth and folklore for Early American historians. She was the first English child born in the Americas, born in 1587 in Roanoke colony in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The colony vanished and was never found, a mystery which endures to this day.
With humanity’s new interest in colonizing Mars, it occurred to me that we can draw parallels to our experience as Americans and the story of the Lost Colony.
My niece Chloe is the model for the photography that I used to create a serigraph on cotton paper in four colors. I also employed a public domain photograph from NASA for the barren, rocky plains of the planet Mars.
