Statement: Art became meaningful to me after I lived and worked in Africa as a humanitarian aidworker during war in Rwanda. After these years, I discovered metaphor in  art, a shift for me away from viewing art as aesthetics. My art has now become a search for optimism found in the natural world. I seek to capture the splendor of the planets and the night sky with my art work Double Jupiter. Ultimately, this work of art is all about getting lost in the brilliance of the red, orange, and blue pigments. I'm taking some liberty with the colors for the planet Jupiter, which I envision in swirling red and orange. I like to amplify the visual appeal of a subject by reducing the number of its colors, or by abstracting its shape. To that end, Double Jupiter is a form of abstract realism, which I find satisfying for its flexible interpretation and enhanced color palette.
