Narrative: “Once, in Charleston, back in 2022, after all of the covid lockdowns, all of the art markets were canceled for an entire year, and I couldn’t afford my art studio anymore, so I put all of my art supplies into storage on the second floor. my brother was helping me move, and I rented a Uhaul truck, and we were driving to my storage unit, and we got caught in the rain downtown, with about two feet of water in the streets. And my brother couldn’t follow me through the water, but we eventually met up at the storage unit, and he said that he would never visit Charleston again, because it’s like a third world country. When I went upstairs, I tried to be very quiet when I unlocked the lock, because there was this crazy black woman who was living in one of the storage units, and whenever I would visit my storage to get some art supplies, she would come out and visit, and bring me gifts, once she gave me a bottle of perfume, which I didn’t know what to do with, but this time she heard me again, and she came out, smiling, and she brought me a small sweetgrass basket, which she had made herself. And about a year later, I was still trying to figure out what to do with this basket, when I realized that I have a few chunks of white coral that I collected from walks on Folly Beach. I organized the corals in the basket, but it still didn’t fill it up, so I pulled out my rock collection and found some quartz crystals, some clear, some smoky, and arranged them in the basket next to the corals.”
