Description: I painted this nature-inspired abstract painting near Folly Beach in Charleston, South Carolina. I had first created a silkscreen version, ink on paper, which sold out quickly. Galleries were asking if they could acquire Catfish Over Neptune, but they lost interest when I described it as ink on paper. So I decided to paint it in oil. I have really enjoyed keeping it in my home for a couple of years. There is a richness and depth in oil painting that is unmatched in other mediums. The concept for the image came about when I began to pair fish with planets. I love the deep blue hue of Neptune, and decided that a Southern catfish would be a good match for the planet. I tried various entire catfish, but I didn't enjoy the look. I kept working and revising the image until it didn't look like a catfish at all.
