And about halfway across the sound, I was paddling over some shallow sandbars, and I noticed that the tide had started running in, creating whirlpools where it met the current of the rivers, and without much warning, my canoe was overtaken with sea water, and I could not bail out, and so I dropped anchor, and held onto my canoe for a few minutes, but I was under water, and the sun was going down, and the water was cold enough to kill me if I stayed in it all night. So, after a few minutes of preparation, I put on my life preserver, and I said a prayer, and I let go of my canoe to swim the two miles back to Jekyll Island, but the tide was very strong, and it was pulling me in a completely different direction, and before long, it was dark, and I was swimming, alone, over a deep, dark, fast moving body of sea water, at night. But I kept swimming, and after a few hours, I could see the outline of land and trees on the horizon. And I made it to an island, which I learned is called Raccoon Key, and as I walked ashore, I began to tremble violently, I was chilled to the bone, so I collected driftwood on the beach, and I pulled out a lighter and lit a magnificent bonfire, under the bright starlight and the humid air. And I slept on the beach, and in the morning, I saw fishermen passing by in their boat, so I ran to flag them down and ask for a lift to the boat ramp where I left my truck, but at the same time I noticed a coast guard vessel that came to the shore, and they called to me to ask if I was Kyle Brown, and I said “yes”, and they explained that a shrimper had found my canoe in the early morning and called it in, and the coast guard found my truck, and they had been looking for me for a couple of hours. And as I boarded the boat, they all looked at me like I was a ghost. And the captain pulled me aside to explain that in his 18 years as a captain, that I was the only live body that they have ever pulled out of the Saint Andrew Sound. And I never told my wife."

Original art by contemporary artist Kyle Brown Jr

Dimensions: 30x44 art, 35x49 framed

Medium: Soft pastel and graphite on cotton paper

Price includes natural colored, all-wood frame, float mount, tan fabric matting, UltraVue low reflective glass

Free insured shipping to the lower 48 states
